Collection: Taiki Okuyama

Born in Okayama in 1988 and based in Tokyo, this artist works as an art director and designer across art, music, and performing arts. As a graphic artist, he creates loop animations and flickering installations inspired by neon signs, presenting works in collaboration with creators both in Japan and internationally. His practice is deeply rooted in free culture and the idea of open spaces—reflected in early projects like the free magazine Junshin Mook and the free-paper shop “ONLY FREE PAPER” in Shibuya PARCO. In 2013, he launched noichigo_source, a website sharing his artwork and source data under a Creative Commons license, which sparked international remixes and media attention.

His evolving body of work reconstructs graphic fragments into looped GIF animations, a format well-suited to digital spaces. In 2017, he debuted as a live VJ, interpreting GIF continuity as flickering neon light. In 2021, he was selected as cover artist for Issued by Bottega, the digital journal by BOTTEGA VENETA, and has since collaborated with the brand on installations and objects for flagship stores. His portfolio spans store displays, digital signage, magazine covers, record jackets, game graphics, and more, with clients including BOTTEGA VENETA, Hermès, ISABEL MARANT, ZADIG & VOLTAIRE, Adobe, and Kiehl’s.
